The owner, Paul Williams, explained that the name came to him in a flash of inspiration while pruning the trees in his garden. After discarding several bad puns he felt the name was perfect for the location and will hopefully be memorable.
I caught up with Paul on a quiet Monday and asked him how he ended up opening a dog groomers in Tongwynlais. Paul worked as a call centre manager and technical support contractor for many years, so this is quite a career change. With some redundancy money and help from Business Wales, he told me it was a perfect opportunity to work close to home and do something he loves.
Paul has lived in Tongwynlais for 3 years and watching all the dogs being walked through the village made him consider starting his own business. After a 2 month City and Guilds training course, Paul outfitted the premises himself and began work. With the shop close to home, he’s able to offer a flexible service for dog owners, often working in the evenings and weekends. He’s helping out Hope Dog Rescue in Caerphilly by giving each dog they foster a free groom.
I asked Paul if he’s got any favourite customers and he told me there’s a greyhound called Rocky who always stops when they pass the shop and he won’t leave until Paul says hello!
Paul is clearly loving this new venture and is excited about the future of his business. You can call 02920 814020 to make an appointment or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
