Breeze Bike Rides for Women

Breeze bike rides

Get on your bike and take part in a Breeze ride from Taffs Well to Bute Park and back. Breeze is British Cycling’s biggest ever program to get women riding their bikes for fun, aiming to help thousands more women feel confident and comfortable about going for a bike ride.

Breeze has spoken to lots of women to try to understand the barriers women face when it comes to cycling and found that lack of time, lack of confidence and lack of feeling safe when riding a bike were prominent issues. In response to this, Breeze is trying to provide as many cycling opportunities as possible in a nurturing, friendly and safe environment.

The Breeze Champions, all of whom are volunteers and first aid trained, organise free, fun, social bike rides for women or women and children’s groups. Rides go at a speed that suits everyone, and they often visit a cafe en route so everyone can have a drink and a chat.

Rachael Jordan is a Breeze Champion based in Taffs Well. She told us how she got involved in the scheme, “I have been cycling since I was a kid and started mountain biking in 2006. I qualified as a Breeze Assistant Leader in 2014 and successfully completed my St. John’s Ambulance Essential First Aid early in 2015 to become a Breeze Leader.”

Rachael aims to lead Breeze rides every two weeks from Taffs Well on Saturday mornings and may be able to lead more rides in the evenings as they get longer. She added, “I would love to see more teenage girls cycling bikes and I will also be leading women only and women and children’s rides.”

The next ride is on Saturday 18th April, leaving at 10.30am from the car park of the Taffs Well Train Station (Taffs Well Railway Station, Cardiff Road, Taffs Well, CF15 7PE). Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the ride to ensure an on time departure. Helmets are compulsory.
