Community Council Warn Residents to be Vigilant after recent spate of Burglaries

Door handle

I’ve been notified by the Community Council that there’s been a spate of burglaries in the village.

A house in Castell Coch View was entered by thieves after simply trying each front door on the road until they found one unlocked. They stole the owner’s car after grabbing a handbag and the keys, without the occupants even waking up. A house on Mill Road was burgled by using a crowbar on the back door. The thieves stole valuables and some irreplaceable personal items.

There are second hand reports of an incident on Market Street and also in Morganstown, including Pugh’s Garden Centre.

South Wales Police offer burglary prevention advice on the Secured by Design website. The Police.uk site also has some good advice, including:

  • Hide all keys, including car keys, out of sight and away from the letterbox (remember a device could be used to hook keys through the letterbox)
  • Ensure side gates are locked to prevent access to the rear of the property
  • Improve natural surveillance at the front of your property i.e. trim high hedges
  • Remove valuables from view of ground floor windows

Remember to call 101 if you have information about a crime in your area or to make a general enquiry.
