This is the second in a series of guest posts by Junior Reporters.

What is Pokémon Go?

Pokémon is Japanese for “pocket monster”, they are imaginary creatures in a virtual world that you collect and register in your Pokédex. A Pokédex is a machine that all the Pokémon you have caught go onto. Few have completed the Pokédex but the creators keep adding more. At the moment we are on the second generation with Pokémon such as Togetic and Spinarak.

How can I play it in Tongwynlais?

You can play Pokémon Go everywhere but Tongwynlais is an ideal place to play because they have a PokéStop, based at Bethesda church and Castell Coch. A PokéStop allows you to spin a wheel and collect Poké Balls and potions which you can use to capture your Pokémon. There is a PokéGym situated at St Michael’s church. There are also some rare Pokémon to be found in Tongwynlais. I have caught a 958 Golduck on the way out of Tongwynlais. Tongwynlais is a great place to catch Pokémon.

How do I get Pokémon Go and how do I play it?

You can download Pokémon Go on your phone. It is a free app and is available on the Apple App Store and Google Play. To catch Pokémon, you throw a Poké Ball at the target, if the ball shakes three times the Pokémon is yours. Also in gyms to do a quick move you tap the screen, to dodge you swipe and to use your charged move you hold down on the screen.

So what are you waiting for? Go out, get some exercise and collect some Pokémon at the same time. Remember to be careful of your surroundings.

  1. Well done, Trystan. Really interesting and well written. You should be very proud of yourself. I learned a lot about Pokemons from your article. My nephew does Pokemon Go so now I can give him a few pointers on where to find them around Ton. Thanks!
