Litter in the village

Tongwynlais residents have organised a litter pick for the May bank holiday weekend.

The idea came from Ellen, who attends Tongwynlais Primary School. She was so unhappy about the litter in the village that she took it upon herself to contact the Council to complain and to offer her spare time to do something about it.

With the support of Keep Wales Tidy, Ellen became a litter champion for the Council and set about picking up litter around the village, roping in her friends, and also joining other active members of the community to undertake group litter picks around the Taff Trail and the ASDA roundabout.

Having heard complaints from other members of the community, who were also fed up with the amount of litter on our streets, Ellen suggested they take action by organising the first Tongwynlais Community Litter Pick.

Keep Wales Tidy and Ely TimePlace have kindly offered to supply equipment. The Community Council will be attending and providing insurance so the litter pick can take place. We’re supporting Ellen’s venture by promoting the event and helping to recruit volunteers.

How you can help

If you would like to register your interest in joining the litter pick, or if you’d like to let us know which areas we should be cleaning up, you can complete this Facebook survey:

Tongwynlais Litter Pick Survey

The litter pick will take place on Monday, 6th May at 11am. We’ll be meeting in The Lewis Arms to receive a briefing from Richard Weaver from Keep Wales Tidy before heading out to clean up Tongwynlais.

Please bring a friend or a family member for half an hour, an hour, or as much time as you can spare.

You can email for more information or you can just turn up on the day!
