These routes are from the last couple of months. I’ve been lucky to avoid injury and kept to a steady routine of trail and road runs.

Fforest Ganol

Often overlooked for its more well known neighbour, Fforest Ganol is a stunning location for a walk or trail run.

The stream in this photo runs alongside Heol-Y-Fforest. This is the road the separates Fforest Ganol and Fforest Fawr.

There’s a great view across Greenmeadow Wood, looking towards Tongwynlais, from Rhiwbina Hill.

The Garth

The Garth is on the opposite side of the Taff Valley to Craig yr Allt. You can walk up from Pentyrch or Gwaelod-y-garth but my favourite route is through Garth Woods.

It can be very popular at times but it’s still the perfect place to get away from the city and enjoy some fantastic views.

Find Your Way

If you’re not familiar with the north of Cardiff, here are a few points of interest to explore.

River Taff

The River Taff runs along the western edge of Tongwynlais. You can follow it south towards Cardiff Bay or North into the Valleys.

This is one of my favourite places to enjoy the changing seasons. The autumn colours of Fforest Fawr around Castell Coch create a spectacular view.

Pentyrch

If you’re going up the Garth, it’s worth exploring Pentyrch as well. It’s a beautiful village and has its own share of fantastic views.

A popular route from Tongwynlais is up through Morganstown woods, past Taffs Well quarry and along Heol Goch.
