Chocolate Hair Salon

Chocolate Salon Sign

For those wondering, the name “Chocolate” has a historical connection: the salon was originally situated on the corner of Market Street, in the premises of an old sweet shop. I’d often wondered where the name came from so I was pleased that Lucia, Chocolate’s owner, agreed to be interviewed for our “Business Focus” series.

Lucia from Chocolate Salon

Lucia has lived in Tongwynlais for 16 years. She loves the friendly village feel and proximity to the city centre. She opened Chocolate 4 years ago after working at several salons in Cardiff. Her father, Mario, ran a hairdressers on Crwys Road for many years and Lucia has carried on the family tradition.

I asked Lucia how a small village supports 3 hairdressers and she explained that a lot of her clients are from her previous salon. “They really like coming to Tongwynlais to get their hair cut as it’s a lovely village and really easy to get to”, she explained.

Chocolate is a unisex hairdressers and offers a full range of hair treatments, including wedding hair. Lucia has 3 members of staff and is looking to hire a junior stylist to cope with the increasing number of customers. Lucia explained that, “even after adding more mirrors and chairs during the recent refit we’re still really busy and need more staff.”

I asked Lucia if she has any plans for the future and she explained that her sister, Annalisa, has recently opened the new coffee shop next door so they hope to offer customers the option to order speciality coffee and snacks.
