Pixel Art Tongwynlais – Part 6

Pixel art describes a technique for creating digital illustrations at the individual pixel level. This type of art was the result of low resolution displays in early videogame systems. Today, our phone and computer displays have millions of pixels. Despite this, the art form is very popular and the “retro” videogame look is used in many contemporary games.

I’ve now created 39 illustrations of buildings in Tongwynlais.

Collection 10

This collection features some more of my favourite buildings in the village that wouldn’t fit in a square!

The bungalow next to the school is a lovely property. I always wanted to add it to a collection but it’s too big. I changed one detail, leave a comment if you notice it.

Deco Heat have been located in the village for over 20 years. I really enjoyed capturing the details outside the showroom.

This house opposite the Lewis Arms was a shop for many years and still has an old sign for the Castle Stores.

St Michael’s Church was one of the first illustrations in part 1. I always wanted to create another one from this angle.

Cardiff in Pixels

The Lego store in Cardiff has a pixel art illustration of Cardiff Castle on the wall by the entrance.

I’ve already created a series of Cardiff landmarks so I couldn’t resist creating my own version of the clock tower.

I hope you enjoy these new illustrations. What other buildings would you like to see?

  1. Another impressive selection Jack – these and your recent sketches are becoming addictive – clearly your innate artistry shows through, even surpassing your innate geekery.
