Fourteen Years On: Looking Forward

Tongwynlais.com is fourteen years old today!

If you’re a new reader, I wrote about the history of the site on its 10th anniversary.

It doesn’t feel like a year ago since I was considering future plans. Sadly, none of these came to anything but I’ve continued to publish articles here and on castellcoch.com every month.

I’ve come to accept that this is a very niche blog with a small potential audience. I still remember an early comment from someone who said, “Why would you create a website for a village?!” Tongwynlais is still my focus but I publish articles about Cardiff if I find something interesting.

The internet’s a very different place from when the site launched and independent websites are struggling to attract readers. I love publishing on the web and having somewhere to share my creative work. It won’t make me rich and famous but it makes me happy.

I’m very lucky to have the time and resources for researching articles, collecting memorabilia and maintaining the sites. If I had to make money they would’ve closed down years ago.

I’m thankful for the dedicated readers who share my love for Tongwynlais and appreciate the work I produce. I’ve received some lovely comments recently and they made my day!

Now I need to get planning and looking forward to 15 years…

These are some of the photos I’ve taken over the last twelve months. I was pleased with the bluebell shots in Greenmeadow Woods.

A Year in Posts

Reflecting on this list, I’m really proud of this year’s output! The photo of our old railway station was a particularly interesting discovery.

Thank You

I’m so grateful for the lovely comments I receive and the contributions people make online. If you have any questions or suggestions, please get in touch.

  1. An excellent review of a great year. I like the fact you’ve managed to post at least once a month – that’s quite a commitment – especially when every post is so rich in history and insight.

Keep up the great work – I know a lot more about this village in which we live since the blog started and I look forward to learn yet more in the years ahead.
