Sketching Tongwynlais – Part 1

My new year often begins with the intention to draw every day. I typically fail half way through January and lose motivation to restart.

Somehow, I’ve managed to reach 260 consecutive days of drawing this year. All of them are pen and ink sketches and most of them are of buildings in the village.

I’ve been inspired by several urban sketchers that I follow online. I really enjoy capturing architectural detail and form with shadows.

I work from photos and typically spend 10-30 minutes on each sketch. I don’t worry about creating a finished piece and don’t use pencil guides so mistakes are inevitable. The most important thing for me is producing something and building the habit.

I’m at the point where I’d like to add some colour or try using a different medium, but maybe that’s a project for next year.
