Pixel art describes a technique for creating digital illustrations at the individual pixel level. This type of art was the result of low resolution displays in early videogame systems. Today, our phone and computer displays have millions of pixels. Despite this, the art form is very popular and the “retro” videogame look is used in many contemporary games.
I’ve now created 35 illustrations of buildings in Tongwynlais.

Collection 9
This collection features some more of my favourite residential buildings in the village.
A former owner of this beautiful cottage asked me to include it in this series. After I published the illustration on Instagram, the current owner saw it and got in touch too.

This cottage on Merthyr Road is well known in the village for its beautiful Christmas decorations.

This next property is hidden away in a quiet part of the village. I love the wooden porch canopy and wisteria.
The owner of this house saw it online and asked for a copy, which I was happy to provide.

The last house in this collection has a stunning garden that the owner opens up every year to raise money for charity. I used a photo from my visit in 2023 as inspiration for this illustration. I knew the garden would be tricky to capture but I’m pleased with the result. I had to include the ducks that enjoy paddling in the garden’s stream!

Cardiff in Pixels
I’ve created a series of illustrations of Cardiff landmarks and I added this local favourite recently. I run past the Gwaelod y Garth Inn regularly and celebrated many special occasions in their restaurant.

I have some plans for Collection 10 but I’d love to hear from you if you have any ideas for future illustrations.
