I spend a lot time enjoying the local trails, either walking, running or cycling. I was interested to see a new group form earlier this year with the aim of improving the mountain bike trails in the area.

North Cardiff Trails are planning to work with land owners, local riders, businesses and trail users to improve the trails and promote their use.

I reached out to the group and Manon Carpenter got in touch with some information, noting that they had their first open meeting in the Lewis Arms back in May.

With plan2ride already providing a hub for outdoor enthusiasts and cake lovers, Tongwynlais is set to continue being the starting point for enjoying our fantastic countryside.

Manon Carpenter is a professional downhill mountain bike racer from Caerphilly and ambassador for the group: “I’ve ridden these trails for over 15 years, helping me to become Mountain Bike World Champion in 2014. We have an amazing opportunity and resource here, let’s look after North Cardiff Trails!“

The Team

Max, Nick, Luke and James are fellow founding members. The team includes a group of volunteers who want to make a difference.

Woodlands

The group have created a map with information about the woodlands in the north of Cardiff. These include several areas with protected status and a variety of wildlife.

Updates

Visit northcardifftrails.org to read updates from the group and sign up for their newsletter. You can read past issues on their archive.

Tongwynlais is a fantastic location for accessing the outdoors and we’ve had mountain bike trails in the area for 30 years or more.

We held our first open meeting at The Lewis Arms in May this year, however we’ve had ongoing meetings with the local land owners and managers over the last 2 years.
